Aesthetics and narrative, put simply, are preferences. And preference is a choice born of the inner self—a choice often at odds with, or even hostile to, reason and circumstance. To originate from the heart is easy; to remain true to it is exceedingly difficult. Most choices that people ultimately carry out do not come from the heart, but from animality and sociality. Only the truly courageous can remain faithful to their inner self. In essence, aesthetics stems from courage.
