The poor share a defining flaw: they fail to realize that everyone in society is out to harm them. The rich, however, possess this very awareness. Knowing that others will seek to exploit them, they grow selfish, callous, and indifferent to feelings, living with cold detachment. The poor constantly speak of conscience, sentiment, and morality, which is precisely why they struggle at every turn. For morality, conscience, and sentiment are merely the constructs of the human order; the Way of Heaven abides by no such rules.
